Epic Finale

I had the pleasure of watching Fang Island this evening, one of those buzz bands that have 6music and Dazed in the palm of their hand but little traction among the wider music press.

And, like a lot of those bands, they were pretty good. The music was tight, they played hard and the crowd rocked out, by and large.

But at the heart of every track sits a disorientating bud of madness; every song – every single one – sounded like the grand finale of an epic set.

It was impressive and explosive, but it felt lacking in… foreplay? It needed build-up to the payoff.

There’s a slogan in that somewhere.
